Heather + Dan ~ Engagement Session

This weekend my husband and I went to Banff with Heather and Dan for Starbuck's coffee, a fantastic lunch, a couple hours of great conversation and amazing photography. 

Their story: 

Dan surprised Heather with a trip to Banff a few months ago and despite all of the obstacles that she threw his way, he was finally able to get her all to himself and propose. She of course said yes and they are getting married later this year on November 8, 2008.

I am thrilled to be able to photograph their wedding. Dan and Heather are so much in love and are so perfect for each other. You can just tell that this is forever.

I love big, environmental shots and this image illustrates the majestic beauty of the Rocky Mountains perfectly.

Heather and Dan brought me to this very cool location which had ruins of an old mining town. We had so much fun exploring the old buildings and train tracks. There were so many cool textures and backdrops to photograph. This image just happens to be one of my favorites from the day - a private moment between Heather and Dan.

One of the first things that Heather and Dan expressed to me was their dislike of having their pictures taken. Why is it that the people who claim to be "shy" always end up being the most photogenic??? Needless to say, they eventually came out of their shells ;)

I love this entire series we did in the tall grass, especially the quiet moments between Heather and Dan.

Our session had officially wrapped when I spotted this amazing wood building and I just HAD to use it for a few pictures. The color was incredible and totally brings out Heather's blue eyes. You guys make a gorgeous couple. Thank you for humoring me and my "inspirations"!

Anna + Matt ~ Engagement Session

Anna and Matt love architecture and Anna really wanted a European feel to their engagement shoot. We decided to head downtown to see what we could find to inspire us.

With this mission in mind, I immediately thought of this building below. I remember it as the old Rococo Restaurant and supplier of the best chocolate platter I have ever indulged in! I'm not sure what it is used for now, but the exterior still has the same incredible facade. We were here for a while trying out all sorts of angles and lenses-so much fun! Anna and Matt had to tear me away...

Anna and Matt have such mesmerizing blue eyes, so beautiful.

Meet Matt, dance extraordinaire by day and fire fighter by night.

That's right ladies a real, live, fire fighter! I can't wait for their wedding in August. You can bet that there will definitely be fire trucks incorporated into our photo shoot!

The story behind all of the almost-kisses is that Anna and Matt have made a pact that their first real, on-the-lips-kiss is going to be on their wedding day!!! Until then they can kiss anywhere but there. It all started with something Matt said to Anna well before they even started dating, and as time went on and their relationship grew, they decided that it would be an amazing experience that they wanted to wait for and share on their wedding day.  

I am so proud of you guys for staying true to each other and your commitment, I can't imagine how hard it must be sometimes! August can't come soon enough!

Rachelle + Mathew Engagement session

I have been getting requests to post some previous wedding, engagement and portrait sessions that I haven't shared yet. My new website is amazing and I am totally in love with it, but there just isn't enough space on it to post every session that I photograph. This blog however, is a perfect place for me to share my past work, recent photo shoots, and all of my upcoming photography sessions that I am so excited about! 

I recently finished Rachelle and Mathew's wedding album from their gorgeous wedding here in Calgary, AB. When they stopped by to pick it up I was a little bit sad thinking that this might be one of the last times that I will see them. We have worked so closely together throughout their entire wedding process that I seem to have become attached to them! I first photographed Rachelle when she was a bridesmaid in Dennis and Heather's wedding in 2005 (has it been that long already???) Needless to say, our relationship has been a long time in the making!

One of my favorite aspects of being a wedding and portrait photographer is the amazing people that I get to spend my time with on a daily basis. Weddings especially allow me to really get to know the couple that I am photographing on a personal level and most often, our business relationship soon blossoms into a beautiful friendship. I feel honored to be invited into their world to share and document some of the most important moments in their lives. Rachelle and Mathew are no exception. They are two extraordinary people and I am so happy to have met you guys...now hurry up and have those babies so I can photograph you again! ;)
